Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a sharp dig at Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during a special Lok Sabha discussion on “Operation Sindoor,” India’s powerful military response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Highlighting the boldness and precision of the Indian Armed Forces, PM Modi stated that the Pakistani Prime Minister had openly admitted to being in a swimming pool while India carried out precision strikes under Operation Sindoor.
The retaliatory mission, codenamed Operation Sindoor, showcased India’s military precision and resolve. “On the intervening night of May 6-7, India took action just as decided. Pakistan could not do anything. Our armed forces avenged the April 22 attack within 22 minutes with precision strikes,” said PM Modi. He further claimed that Pakistan pleaded for the strikes to stop, quoting their reaction as, “Bahut maara, ab jyada maar jhelne ki takatnahihai.”
Free Hand To Armed Forces
Highlighting a shift from previous policies, Modi emphasised that the armed forces were given complete freedom to decide the “when, where and how” of the operation. “We are proud that terrorists were punished, and it was such a punishment that the terrorist masterminds have sleepless nights even to this day,” he stated, underlining India’s aggressive stance against terror sponsors.
Criticism Of Indus Waters Treaty
The Prime Minister strongly criticised the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, terming it a strategic blunder by then PM Jawaharlal Nehru. He noted that the treaty gave away 80 per cent of India’s water from the Indus River system to Pakistan. “Can anyone explain the mindset behind such a decision? We were left with only 20 per cent. They gave 80 per cent to a country that openly calls itself India’s enemy,” Modi said.
He also pointed out that Nehru had accepted several Pakistani conditions, such as restrictions on India’s ability to clean or desilt its own dams, ignoring the needs of Indian farmers. “This was diplomacy that ignored the existence of our farmers entirely,” he remarked.
Signaling a major shift in India’s approach, PM Modi declared that the Indus Waters Treaty would be kept in abeyance, invoking the phrase: “Blood and water cannot flow together.”
