White House Dinner Shooting Suspect Cole Allen: White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting suspect Cole Allen has reportedly admitted he was targeting Trump administration officials. According to CBS News, citing law enforcement sources, the suspect told investigators after his arrest that he intended to shoot Trump administration officials. However, he did not specifically state that President Donald Trump himself was the target, but rather “administration officials.”

The suspect has been taken into custody by the FBI along with local law enforcement authorities, according to Fox News reports.

The suspect was quickly secured by the FBI and local law enforcement agencies after the shooting incident, Fox News reported.

Authorities have identified the accused as 31-year-old Cole Allen from Torrance, California. He remains in custody and is currently undergoing medical evaluation at a hospital. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that the investigation is “ongoing” and confirmed that formal charges are expected to be filed "shortly".

Chaos unfolded shortly after 8:30 pm ET when gunfire broke out during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, sending attendees rushing for cover under tables. Secret Service agents immediately escorted President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump off the stage.

Meanwhile, the US Attorney’s Office told Fox News that a federal judge in California’s Central District is expected to approve a search warrant for the suspect’s residence. Once authorised, the FBI will be able to search his home, though officials noted the process could take several hours.

US President Trump rushed out of dinner event after shots were fired

US President Donald Trump and other top officials were evacuated unharmed from the annual dinner of White House correspondents after a man armed with multiple weapons fired shots outside the ballroom of the hotel.

The incident took place at around 8:34 PM local time when dinner was served. At that time, Trump was seen having a conversation with Weijia Jiang, the president of the White House Correspondents' Association, and mentalist Oz Pearlman, who was scheduled to present a show at the marquee event at the Washington Hilton here.

Secret Service officials and other security personnel covered the President, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President J D Vance, and the Second Lady Usha Vance, who were seated at the head table, and escorted them out of the ballroom.

Several guests at the dinner, including leaders across the political spectrum, journalists and other invitees, ducked under the table, apparently as a reflex reaction.
