A dramatic scene unfolded at Denver International Airport when an American Airlines plane carrying 172 passengers caught fire, triggering a swift evacuation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The fire broke out while the aircraft was parked at Gate C38, with thick black smoke rising from the tarmac. Emergency crews quickly responded to contain the flames.

Videos circulating on social media show passengers evacuating the plane, some standing on the wing while airport staff deployed emergency slides and ladders to assist them.

In a statement, American Airlines confirmed that the aircraft experienced an engine-related issue after safely landing and taxiing to the gate. “All 172 passengers and six crew members were safely deplaned and relocated to the terminal,” the airline said.

The fire broke out after the Boeing 737-800 was diverted to the airport due to an engine issue, according to the airline. A passenger's family member informed CBS News Colorado that all luggage was removed from the aircraft, and passengers were being rebooked on a flight set to depart from Denver to Dallas at 1 a.m. local time on Friday.

The aircraft eventually came to a stop at Gate C38 in Concourse C.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, Boeing declined to comment, directing inquiries to American Airlines and investigators.

Passengers were seen evacuating the aircraft via emergency slides and ladders set up by airport ground crews. Some were even spotted standing on the plane’s wing as they awaited assistance. Thankfully, no injuries were reported in the incident.


This incident comes amid growing concerns over aviation safety, following a series of accidents, including a fatal collision between an American Airlines jet and a Black Hawk helicopter near Washington, DC., and a medical jet crash in Philadelphia that resulted in multiple casualties.
