According to local reports and police statements cited by South China Morning Post, Sato was insecured over the possibility of her boyfriend leaving her and marrying someone else. She allegedly shouted, “I do not want you marrying another woman and exchanging rings,” before chopping off part of his left ring finger.Authorities later discovered the severed finger preserved in alcohol inside the couple’s refrigerator. The victim also asserted that Sato mutilated half of his left nipple before, saying she once told him, “A man’s nipple will grow back if you cut it off.” Fearing her threats and manipulation, he said.

The couple first met in 2023 when he was a 19-year-old student came across Sato's cosplay videos on the internet. The victim disclosed that Sato was obssesed on dominating his life. "Yandere" Fantasy Turns Real

The incident has triggered heated debate on the internet, with most netizens drawing parallels between Sato's actions and the "yandere" character trope in Japanese anime, where a sweet and innocent-looking individual turns into a violently obsessed lover.

Sato has been formally indicted on three charges of assault as of April 21. However, she denies all allegations and has told police that the boyfriend cut off his own finger. Authorities are continuing their investigation, and psychological evaluations have reportedly been ordered as part of the trial proceedings.
