A usual two-and-a-half-hour ride on Japan's famous bullet train, celebrated for its speed and efficiency, took an unexpected twist when it was attacked by zombies. What was expected to be a serene ride transformed into a scene reminiscent of a zombie apocalypse, with passengers screaming in fear and panic. As the train sped along its route, the unsettling events left travellers shaken.
The unsettling experience was inspired by the popular 2016 South Korean action-horror film ‘Train to Busan’, which follows a father and daughter fighting off zombies on a moving train.
At first, everything appeared normal as the bullet train departed smoothly on Saturday evening, but it quickly turned chaotic with the onset of a gruesome attack. Actors strategically placed in the seats by the organisers began to convulse in pain before undergoing a horrifying transformation and launching a rampage against the other passengers.

The organisers of Saturday’s thrilling journey, occurring less than two weeks before Halloween, called it the ‘world’s first haunted house experience on a moving shinkansen’.
Tourist Shares Excitement Of Traveling On Japan's Zombie Train
Joshua Payne, a 31-year-old American tourist sitting next to one of the actors, shared his experience on the train, stating that it felt as if he were part of a film, watching the action unfold before him, as reported by AFP. He expressed his excitement about being able to travel from Tokyo to Osaka while enjoying a live performance, calling it both impressive and potentially groundbreaking.
The chartered shinkansen (bullet train), typically recognised for its efficiency, turned into a battleground as frightened passengers faced off against flesh-hungry zombies. Actors positioned among the riders enacted attacks, morphing into zombies and creating chaos among the unsuspecting travellers.
The event was not the first experiment conducted by the Central Japan Railway Company. To diversify its business, the company has begun renting out bullet train compartments for various special events. The Shinkansen has transformed into a flexible venue, hosting everything from sushi restaurants and bars to wrestling matches.
