Zohran Mamdani Victory Speech: In a victory speech Tuesday night, Zohran Mamdani addressed voters in New York City’s mayoral race who didn’t support him, saying, “Thank you for the opportunity to prove myself worthy of your trust.” Mamdani said he has only four words to say to US President Donald Trump- "Turn the volume up".

The 34-year-old Indian-descent democrat defeated independent candidate Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in the closely-watched battle for New York City Mayor.

Mamdani cites Nehru in victory speech

Later, in the speech Mamdani mentioned about India's first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru and recalled the history when the British era ended and he took charge of the country ruined by the Britishers.

"I think of the words of Jawaharlal Nehru. A moment comes but rarely in history when we step out from the old to the new. When an age ends & the soul of a nation finds utterance. Tonight we step out from the old to the new," Mamdani said in a powerful message while "Dhoom Mache Le Dhoom" song playing in the background

Mamdani spoke directly to Trump as he celebrated his win in the New York City mayoral race Tuesday night, telling the Republican, “To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us.”

“So Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up!,” Mamdani said.

Trump has threatened to withhold federal funding and take over the city if Mamdani won the race. “New York will remain a city of immigrants, a city built by immigrants, powered by immigrants and as of tonight, led by an immigrant,” Mamdani said.

“I will wake each morning with a singular purpose: to make this city better for you than it was the day before,” Mamdani said.

He reiterated his plans to address the city’s astronomical cost of living, listing off planks of his campaign messaging.

Mamdani refuse to apologise

Mamdani will be the first Muslim, the first Indian-origin, the first born in Africa, and the youngest one in more than a century when he becomes New York Mayor on January 1.
"I am young and I am a Muslim. I refuse to apologise for being a Muslim," Mamdani said in his victory speech.

"A moment comes, but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. Tonight, we have stepped out from the old into the new,” he said, quoting India's first prime minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

With Mamdani's win, New York City and the US entered a new political and ideological era with the democratic socialist now at the helm of the citadel of capitalism.
Mamdani is the son of renowned filmmaker Mira Nair and Columbia University professor Mahmood Mamdani.

He was born and raised in Kampala, Uganda and moved to New York City with his family when he was 7. Mamdani became a naturalised US citizen only recently, in 2018.
