Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi recently launched its first EV offering, known as the SU7. After the notable success of the Xiaomi SU7, there are speculations floating around about the possibility of a Redmi electric vehicle. Wang Teng, General Manager of Xiaomi’s Redmi brand, has provided clarity on these speculations about the Redmi car.

Teng clarified that although there are no immediate intentions to introduce a Redmi car, there are plans in place for upcoming models under the Xiaomi brand. Wang Teng further added, “If we hope to see a Redmi car in the future, we should all support and promote the Xiaomi SU7. Xiaomi cars are still in their early stages, and we need to get the core Xiaomi models right first. In addition to the current offerings, there will be plans for new vehicle models in the future.”

Xiaomi’s inaugural EV offering, the SU7 electric sedan, has captured significant attention among potential Chinese buyers. Xiaomi SU7 has been introduced with aspirations to compete against established players like Tesla and BYD in the local market. The Chinese tech giant might be successful in doing so as it has already received over 1 lakh bookings for the electric sedan. The Xiaomi SU7 was launched at an event in Beijing on March 28, the electric sedan is priced around Rs 25 lakh and promises a range of at least 700 km, along with high-performance attributes and a plethora of features.

Deliveries of the Xiaomi SU7 have commenced today for the initial batch of the EV, as the manufacturer announced the dispatch of the first 5,000 units. However, due to overwhelming demand for the SU7 electric sedan, the remaining customers who have booked the EV may face a waiting period of up to seven months or more. Currently, Xiaomi anticipates that the waiting time could span between four to seven months.
