Google has revealed plans to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into Android Auto to decrease the time drivers spend gazing at screens. This new feature is set to be released later this year, with a primary focus on reducing distractions for drivers and overall safety, as highlighted in the company's announcement.
One of the most interesting features of this new addition is that it will allow the summarisation of long messages or chat conversations. Android Auto users will receive a summarised version that they can listen to while on the move. Additionally, the AI will provide suggested responses, promoting a hands-free and simplified interaction experience.

The new AI feature with Android Auto will also add contextual information into messages, like estimating the user's arrival time using Google Maps data when asked about their ETA by a friend. To simplify navigation, Google is introducing a one-tap feature enabling users to swiftly navigate to shared locations without having to put the details manually into Google Maps.
Additionally, Google intends to synchronise the design of Android Auto more closely with users' smartphones. The infotainment display in the car will replicate the icon style and wallpaper of the linked phone, ensuring a unified and visually seamless experience for drivers. Google aims to solidify Android Auto as the preferred choice for drivers seeking a connected and intelligent in-car experience with these upcoming AI-driven features, all while emphasising safety on the road.

In addition to incorporating AI, Google has unveiled plans for significant upgrades to Android Auto. The emphasis will be on improving the experience for electric vehicle (EV) users. These enhancements aim to simplify the EV driving experience, offering users essential information like their estimated battery level upon reaching their destination. Moreover, the system will recommend ideal charging stops along the route and provide estimated duration of the charging process based on the characteristics of the specific EV.
