German luxury car manufacturer Audi is rumoured to be in the development phase of a new SUV. This new model is expected to be launched as the brand’s flagship SUV in its Q series. It is expected that it will be named the Audi Q9 and will compete with other premium SUV models such as the Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X7, and Lexus LX. According to statements made by Audi Australia's director, Jeff Mannering, in an interview with CarSales, the anticipated timeline for the arrival of this new full-size flagship SUV is around 2026.

While discussing the possible introduction of a larger and more luxurious addition to the Q series lineup, Mannering hinted at Audi's absence in certain segments already occupied by competitors like the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS. He suggested that Audi might launch the anticipated Q9, a full-size flagship SUV in the market within the next 24 months.  "If you just look at volume versus different brands, we're not in some segments that others are in. Let's see what happens in the next 24 months," he said.

Audi's potential entry into the full-size SUV market with the Q9 could have a seven-seater configuration with emphasis on increased legroom for third-row passengers. The German luxury carmaker would initially focus on the more demanding markets for the brand like the US and China. It is expected that the luxury SUV might also be launched in India, as the country has been witnessing a growing demand for high-end models. The Q9 would face competition from the recently launched model, Mercedes-Benz GLS facelift and the existing BMW X7 in the Indian market.
