Bajaj Auto, a leading two-wheeler manufacturer in India recently launched the Pulsar NS400Z in the country. The NS400Z is the first 400cc bike in the Pulsar family and it is likely that more exciting releases are planned to be launched in the upcoming future. Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director at Bajaj Auto, expressed optimism about this segment and called it highly profitable and beneficial for the brand's image.
Currently, Bajaj Auto along with partner brands like KTM, Husqvarna and Triumph sells around 25,000 to 30,000 units monthly in the 400cc segment. Bajaj sees ample room for growth in this market. When asked about potential competition within their own lineup, Bajaj remained confident, stating that their current market share allows for significant growth opportunities.
The new Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is aimed at street bike enthusiasts, distinct from the Dominar 400, which targets sports touring riders. Bajaj's management emphasises that both bikes cater to different customer preferences and offer unique riding experiences. Regarding future plans for the Dominar brand, Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director at Bajaj Auto in an Autocar report said, “We have plans for refurbishing and renovating and taking the Dominar to another level, and we will just have to make a few more trips back here in due course of time.”
The 350-500cc motorcycle segment has seen considerable activity lately with over 25 models available in India. Sharma notes a division in the premium motorcycle market beyond the 250-300cc range. This division includes the Classic segment, led by Royal Enfield and the Non-Classic segment comprising sports bikes, sports tourers, adventure bikes and more. While the Classic segment grows modestly at 3 to 4 per cent, the Non-Classic segment, especially sports and touring bikes, sees a robust growth of 13 to 14 per cent. Bajaj's new Pulsars and Dominar fall into this Non-Classic category, giving the company confidence in further segment growth.
