Wrong Side Driving Penalty Delhi: The Delhi Police has registered criminal cases against vehicle owners for driving in wrong-wise of the road. With this, Delhi has become the first and only Union Territory in the country to file criminal cases for wrong-side driving. As per media reports, at least three FIRs have been lodged so far.
Criminal Cases Only In These Conditions
As per a report by the Indian Express, a traffic police officer stated that criminal cases will be filed against the vehicle owner only if the Traffic police officer identifies an offender endangering lives or driving on wrong-side of the road in heavy traffic. Otherwise, the action against the vehicle owner will be taken as per the existing rules.

Wrong-Side Driving Fine
As informed earlier, three FIRs were registered against vehicle owners for driving on the wrong side of the road. The police also informed that the cases are bailable, and the arrested motorists were released later on bail. As per existing rules, driving in wrong side of the road can attract a maximum fine of up to Rs 5,000. Additionally, an FIR registered under section 281 of BNS (Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita 2023) can lead to a jail term of up to six months and a fine of Rs 1,000, and the vehicle will also be impounded.
