Bharat New Car Assessment Programme, also known as BNCAP, has finally completed the first set of crash testing of the vehicles. Now, the reports suggest that the results will be out by the end of this week or by the end of this month. This comes after the BNCAP testing was pushed to December 15, which was earlier supposed to happen on October 15.

As per the reports, the formal process of rating the cars between 1 to 5 has already been initiated, and the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) Pune will be announcing the results. In an interview, Mahmood Ahmed, additional secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, told Autocar Professional that the results will be out as soon as possible, which could be this week or by the end of this month.

Plenty of car makers including Hyundai, Kia, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Toyota and others have participated in the BNCAP voluntarily.

It can be used on all motor vehicles with type approval, that is to say including cars suitable for eight people in seats (including the driver). Tested are vehicles with internal combustion, electric and CNG engines. As required, evaluations include frontal collision tests at 64 kph and side impact tests conducted at 50 kph.
