BharatBenz Heavy-Duty Bus: BharatBenz, a commercial vehicle brand under Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), has introduced the BB1924, a 19.5-tonne heavy-duty bus designed for India's intercity passenger transport segment. Weighing 19,500kg (gross), the high-tensile steel-based BB1924 is meant for those seeking higher payload capacity, improved passenger comfort, and reduced operating costs, as the country's bus market continues to expand.
BharatBenz BB1924: Engine, Chassis
The BB1924 features a 255 x 73.3 x 7mm steel chassis that, according to the company, delivers superior cost effectiveness. It can accommodate up to 51+1+1 individuals, and is backed by 95 per cent parts availability within 28-48 hours through BharatBenz's 92 per cent localised supply chain. Underneath the exterior, the heavy-duty bus gets a BS-VI OBD-II OM926 6-cylinder diesel engine with turbocharger and intercooler, producing 239bhp and 850Nm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed synchromesh gearbox, which the company claims is optimised for highway efficiency. The vehicle also gets a 6-year or 6 lakh-kilometre powertrain warranty.
