BMW 5 Series LWB Launch In India: German automobile giant BMW is set to launch the new 5 Series in India on July 24. The new 5 Series will be BMW's second LWB sedan in India, following the successful 3 Series Grand Limousine launched a few years ago. This makes India the second market after China to receive the 5 Series LWB. Post its launch, the new BMW 5 Series will directly compete with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India, which is also expected to hit the Indian market later this year.
BMW 5 Series LWB - Design
Talking about the design of the 5 Series LWB, it resembles the standard model, though the extended length is noticeable. The 5 Series LWB retains the headlamp and tail-lamp design, as well as the illuminated grille from the standard model. Some variants may have minor tweaks to the front and rear bumpers. In China, the 5 Series LWB features an illuminated ‘5’ on the C-pillar, though this does not light up on the standard version. Unlike the E-Class LWB, which features a separate quarter glass and unique rear door design, the 5 Series LWB's rear door remains similar to the standard model, lacking a rear quarter glass.
BMW 5 Series LWB - Interior & Features
In the Chinese market, the BMW 5 Series LWB comes equipped with numerous luxury features, including 4-zone climate control, quilted upholstery and a dual-tone interior design. A standout feature is the 31.1-inch display that folds down from the headliner. This screen has an 8K resolution, is 5G compatible, and paired with the Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system. It is anticipated that many of these features will be included in the India-spec model.
BMW 5 Series LWB - Dimensions
The latest generation BMW 5 Series LWB measures 5,175mm in length, 1,900mm in width, and 1,520mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,105mm. This version is 145mm longer than the standard 5 Series sedan, with 110mm of that extra length added to the wheelbase. These dimensions are for the Chinese market, but the Indian version is expected to have country-specific modifications such as a right-hand drive setup and slightly increased ground clearance.
BMW 5 Series LWB - Powertrain
Although BMW has not yet specified the powertrain options for the new 5 Series LWB, it is anticipated to come with a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. Both engines are expected to include a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
