German luxury car manufacturer BMW has partnered with Michigan-based energy storage technology firm, Out Next Energy (ONE). The company recently revealed that it successfully employed a battery on a BMW iX prototype which achieved an impressive range of nearly 1,000 km on a single charge. Additionally, BMW is a significant investor in ONE which raises speculation that BMW has ambitious plans to introduce a new battery for future iX electric SUVs. The incorporation of this new battery will enable the future EVs to cover nearly 1,000 km on a single charge.

The battery technology company has claimed that its Gemini battery is rated at 450 Wh/l of volumetric energy density, while the energy content is more than 185 kWh in the same space allotted to typical passenger electric vehicles' packs. The battery technology company has stated that its Gemini battery boasts a volumetric energy density rating of 450 Wh/l, with an energy content exceeding 185 kWh within the same space typically allocated for packs in passenger electric vehicles.
In addition to this, BMW was recently rumoured to trademark a new name in Europe for a performance oriented electric car, ‘iM3’. This rumour suggested that BMW might be working on a performance oriented electric car as part of their performance-focused M division. However, Frank van Meel, CEO, BMW M Division has cleared up all these rumours saying, “We would never use an i on an M”.
BMW currently retails a range of electric vehicles in the country which include the BMW iX1, BMW iX, BMW i4, BMW i7 and BMW i7 M70 xDrive. Ex-showroom prices for all these models are Rs 66.9 lakh for the BMW iX1, Rs 1.21 crore for the BMW iX, Rs 72.5 lakh for the BMW i4, Rs 2.03 crore for the BMW i7 and Rs 2.50 crore for the BMW i7 M70 xDrive.
