Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has its own premium offering brand, known as the Yangwang. Yangwang has unveiled its third car, the U7 which is a powerful luxury sedan with over 1000 bhp of power output. It has been developed to compete with other premium electric cars like the BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE. BYD mentioned that the new flagship U7 sedan from Yangwang will have a starting price of over ¥1 million (approximately Rs 1.2 crore) in China.

BYD Yangwang U7 - Design
The Yangwang U7 is expected to launch in the Chinese market in the second half of 2024. It's built on the same platform as the Yangwang U8 SUV and U9 supercar, called the e4 platform. The U7's exterior design draws inspiration from the U9 as it features similar C-shaped headlamps, well-defined sides and tail-lights spanning the whole width. The Chinese manufacturer says it's going to be one of the most aerodynamic cars out there, beating the i5 and EQE with a drag coefficient of 0.195Cd.
Apart from the U9, the U7 also looks similar to other BYD models, like the upcoming Seal sedan headed for India. While BYD hasn't given specific measurements for the U7 yet, it is expected that it might be around 5,200mm long and 2,000mm wide and will also be able to fit 21 inch wheels.

BYD Yangwang U7 - Powertrain
According to a post on Yangwang’s official WeChat channel (China’s social media platform), it announced that the U7 puts out over 1000 bhp power with the help of four electric motors. It's not clear yet whether this sedan with four-wheel drive will use a range-extender powertrain like the U8 or a pure electric one like the U9. The U8's REx system combines a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, four electric motors and a 49.1kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery that produces a power output of 1,195 bhp. On the other hand, the U9 relies on a pure electric drivetrain with four electric motors and a 100kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery which delivers a combined output of 1,114 bhp.
