Delhi Air Pollution: With morning rains, Delhi on Tuesday witnessed a significant improvement in the depleting Air Quality since the start of November. Given the improvement in the AQI, the Centre today also revoked the restrictions under Stage III of GRAP in the entire NCR with immediate effect. As per the air quality forecasts by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is no indication that the average air quality of Delhi will move to the ‘severe' category in the coming days.
The Centre's pollution control panel had invoked the Stage III restrictions on November 2, directing a halt on non-essential construction work, stone crushing and mining in Delhi-NCR. Under this stage, restrictions were also imposed on the operation of BS III petrol and BS IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar.
Though the ban on these vehicles has been revoked, it is crucial for you to know the emission standard of your vehicle. Let's explore how you can determine whether your car is BS3, BS4, or BS6-compliant.
What are BS-3 and BS-4 Vehicles?
BS3 and BS4 denote Bharat Stage 3 and Bharat Stage 4 emission standards, established by the Central government to regulate the release of harmful pollutants like nitrogen oxides and particulate matter from vehicles into the environment. Notably, BS4 is a more advanced and environmentally friendly standard compared to BS3.
How to Identify BS3 and BS4?
We have outlined methods below to help you determine whether your car adheres to the BS3 or BS4 emission standard.
1. View Registration Certificate: The simplest way is to check your vehicle's registration certificate (RC), which often mentions the emission standards under the Fuel Used or Remarks section. If your RC states BS4, your vehicle conforms to the BS4 standard.
2. Refer To Owner's Manual: The car owner's manual, provided with the vehicle, may contain information about emissions standards. Look in the technical specifications or compliance section.
3. Check The Website: Car manufacturers frequently provide information about various models and their emission standards on their websites. Search for your car's model and year to find out its emission standards.
4. Contact The Manufacturer Or Dealer: If you remain uncertain, contacting the car manufacturer or a local dealer can provide information about your vehicle's emission standards.
