Delhi Pollution: Steps Taken By Delhi Government To Mitigate High AQI And Its Impact On Vehicle Owners

Delhi Pollution:  The air quality in Delhi has fallen to the severe category, and people are choking on polluted air in the national capital. The Delhi government has taken several stringent measures to curb pollution in the region. As per several reports, vehicular pollution contributes around 51-52 per cent to the local pollution. Let’s take a look at the steps taken by the Delhi government to mitigate high AQI and how it has impacted vehicle owners in the area.

Delhi Pollution: No PUC No Fuel

The government has started the No PUC No Fuel rule in Delhi recently. According to the new rule, any vehicle without a valid PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate will not be allowed to refuel at any petrol station in Delhi. The government has also taken stringent action against PUC centres, and 12 centres with faulty equipment were blacklisted recently. The government has installed ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras at the petrol stations to identify such vehicles, and the government has also made it clear that the rule has been permanent and it will not be removed ever after the GRAP-4 is lifted.

Delhi Pollution: Vehicle Ban

The Delhi government has also banned the entry of non-BS-VI vehicles registered outside the state. Additionally, the government has also banned the entry of BS-IV diesel vehicles in the state, even if registered in Delhi. Non-compliance with the rules might result in a fine of up to Rs 20,000, and repeated violations might result in the impounding of the vehicle.

Delhi EV Policy 2.0

The Delhi government is also planning on implementing a new EV policy to boost EV sales in the region. The Delhi EV Policy 2.0 is expected to provide up to 80 per cent subsidies and a better public charging infrastructure. It is worth mentioning that the existing policy was adopted in 2020 for three years, and it has already been extended several times
