India’s Most Expensive Number Plate:  Recently, a vehicle registration plate from Sonipat, Haryana, garnered significant media attention. It was being assumed that the vip vehicle registration plate ‘HR88B8888’ had become India’s most expensive number plate. But now the story has taken a wild turn, and it appears that the HR88B8888 missed the opportunity to become India’s most expensive vehicle number plate. Let’s take a look at what actually happened.

India’s Most Expensive Number Plate: The Auction

The Haryana government organises auctions for VIP vehicle number plates every week. The HR88B8888 registration plate was also a part of such an auction, which was organised last week. The bidding for the HR88B8888 vip number plate began from Rs 50,000. However, the bidding for the plate had crossed the 80 lakh mark by noon, and it was later sold to a person named Sudhir Kumar, who placed a bid of Rs 1.17 crore for the plate. At this price, the VIP vehicle number plate would have certainly become India’s most expensive number plate.

India’s Most Expensive Number Plate: Wild Turn

As per the rules, after placing the final bid, the bidder is required to deposit the full amount within 5 days to avoid the number plate from getting re-auctioned. This is where the story took a very unpredictable turn. The bidder, Sudhir Kumar, shared a video stating that the vehicle number plate is too expensive and he will not be able to make the payment. This is how the HR88B8888 missed the chance of becoming India’s most expensive number plate.

India’s Most Expensive Number Plate: What Next?

As per the rules, the HR88B8888 number plate is once again available for auction, and the auction will begin next Friday. It is worth noting that the bidding will once again begin from Rs 50,000 for the vehicle registration plate. Also, as per the rules of the VIP vehicle number plate auction, bidders are required to deposit a minimum amount of Rs 10,000 to enter the bidding. If the bidder fails to meet the timeline, the deposit amount will not be refunded.
