Hyundai India has announced that all upcoming Hyundai vehicles will be equipped with 6 airbags as standard. This move establishes Hyundai as the first automobile manufacturer in India to bring about this change. This announcement has been made after the Hyundai Verna has recently achieved a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP test in both the Adult Occupant Category and Child Occupant Category.
Hyundai has upgraded its safety features across its entire lineup in India. Previously, models like the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, and Venue had 4 airbags as standard with 6 airbags available in higher-spec variants. Now, all models and all variants will be equipped with 6 airbags as standard. Hyundai also made three-point seatbelts with seat belt reminders standard for all seats on all models earlier this year.

Additionally, 10 out of the 13 Hyundai models in India include ESC and hill-start assist control as standard. The three exceptions are the Hyundai Exter, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Hyundai Aura not having these features on their base level variants.
It has also been speculated that Hyundai has voluntarily set forth three models for Bharat NCAP crash testing, with more to follow. However, which Hyundai vehicles have been nominated for the Bharat NCAP tests hasn’t been disclosed. Though, results for the Bharat NCAP tests will be revealed soon.
The Indian government had earlier planned to make six airbags mandatory for all passenger vehicles sold in the country. However, the implementation of this regulation was withdrawn as the Minister of Road and Transport, Nitin Gadkari recently announced that the incorporation of six airbags will not be mandated as the Bharat NCAP tests' requirements will push automobile manufacturers in India to adopt the necessary safety measures.
