The new Hyundai Verna has achieved a 5-star safety rating in Global NCAP's recent 'Safer Cars For India' crash tests. This accomplishment marks Hyundai's first 5-star safety-rated vehicle in India. Bharat NCAP, India's own vehicle crash testing program is going to be functional in the coming weeks. Approximately 30 models have already been nominated for voluntary crash testing for the Bharat NCAP tests.

Notably, this test was voluntarily requested by Hyundai and the model tested was manufactured in India for the Indian market. The particular Verna variant used for testing wasn't specified but it featured standard safety elements such as 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), rear ISOFIX mounts and seat belt reminders for all seats. 

Hyundai Verna - Adult Occupant Category

In the Adult Occupant Category, the Hyundai Verna achieved a 5-star rating, scoring 28.18 out of maximum 34 points. The test highlighted that while the Verna provided good protection for the driver's and passenger's heads and necks in frontal impact tests and offered only marginal knee protection. Additionally, the footwell area and bodyshell were seen unstable upon impact.

The Verna also underwent side impact and side pole impact tests and resulted in good protection for the head, pelvis, and abdomen along with adequate chest protection of the passenger. In the side pole impact test, the head and pelvis protection was good, chest protection was marginal and abdomen protection was adequate for adult occupants. The Verna's electronic stability control system was found to perform acceptably in a dynamic test.

Hyundai Verna - Child Occupant Category

In the Child Occupant Category, Hyundai Verna achieved a five-star rating, scoring 42 out of a maximum of 49 points. Child seats for both a three-year-old and an 18-month-old provided full head protection during frontal impact tests. In side impact tests, both child restraint systems offered complete protection.
