Goa Club Fire: What Led To The Fatal Blaze?

- Access to the nightclub proved to be a major obstacle for the fleeing people to reach a safe ground, which resulted in such a huge casualty.

- According to a fire official, quoted by the PTI, the club had a remote backwater location, which meant that there was only a single narrow approach road, which forced the fire engines to halt nearly 400 metres away from the club, thereby delaying both the rescue and containment of the fire.

Here Are The Developments In The Goa Club Fire So Far:

- Relatives of the deceased who were admitted at the Goa Medical College mortuary have refused to take the bodies till the nightclub owner arranges to send them home.

- Roshan Redkar, the Sarpanch of the Arpora-Nagoa panchayat, confirmed that the club's operators were involved in an internal dispute, resulting in complaints filed by both parties.

- Following an inspection prompted by this dispute, the panchayat determined that the club had been constructed without the necessary permits.

- Consequently, the local body issued a demolition notice. However, according to Redkar, the Directorate of Panchayats subsequently halted the planned action.

- The Sarpanch further termed the recent incident as ‘unfortunate’ and stressed the need for the local level administration to be more ‘vigilant’ so that these kinds of disputed properties do not crop up in the future.

- The district collector of North Goa has set up an emergency helpline number for the family members of the deceased. For the concerned families, the District Control Room can be reached on 0832-2225383, while the Goa Police Control Room (North Goa) will operate through 7875756000 for urgent reports and assistance.
