Hyundai Electric Vehicle in India: At its first CEO Investor Day held outside of Korea on September 18, Hyundai Motor Company unveiled its 'bold' 2030 strategy to achieve a target of 5.5 million (55 lakh) global vehicle sales by 2030. Of 5.5 million sales, 60 per cent (3.3 million or 33 lakh) are expected to make up electrified vehicles, with significant growth from North America, Europe, and Korea.

Hyundai Global Expansion Plans

Genesis Models

Alongside, Hyundai also announced an expansion of its hybrid line-up to over 18 models by 2030, including Genesis hybrid models (from 2026). With a target set at 3.50 lakh annual sales by 2030, Genesis, Hyundai's luxury brand, aims to introduce hybrid, BEV (battery electric vehicles) and EREV (extended-range electric vehicles) powertrains across its lineup, including the flagship SUV, by 2030.

Beyond that, Genesis plans to produce 'new flagship vehicles', including an off-roader-focused model previewed by the X Gran Equator concept,  unveiled for the first time at the New York Auto Show in April 2025. While its first hybrid will arrive in 2026, Genesis will begin launching EREVs in 2027.

New Hyundai Palisade Hybrid

Next up is the all-new Hyundai Palisade Hybrid, which will arrive with next-generation TMED-II technology, with an aim to offer enhanced performance and fuel efficiency.

First Mid-size pickup

Hyundai also plans to launch its first mid-sized pickup truck in North America before 2030, as the market for these pickups is one of the largest in the North American auto industry. While details are scarce at the moment, the pickup will be based on a body-on-frame platform, and will join the Santa Cruz compact unibody pickup in the company's US lineup.

Region-specific EVs

The Hyundai Ioniq 3, with new-generation infotainment systems, will target European mass-market customers. It will join the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and the Ioniq 9 in the EV line-up, offering a wider spectrum of options to consumers with diverse needs. The Chinese market, on the other hand, will get the locally produced Elexio SUV and the C-segment electric sedan.

Hyundai EREVs

Hyundai says that its EREVs, launching in 2027, will deliver more than 960km of range through optimised battery-engine integration. Unlike traditional EREVs, they will come with high-performance batteries and motors, offering full power performance with less than half the battery capacity.

What's in Store for India?

As for the Indian market, Hyundai confirmed the launch of an A+ segment electric SUV, specifically for 'local drivers'. Arriving in 2027, the upcoming electric SUV is going to benefit from localisation to keep costs in check, according to Hyundai. While the details are under wraps, the new EV is expected to adopt a fresh design language, rather than just being an electric derivative of an existing model.

As part of its planned global expansion of 12 lakh units by 2030, Hyundai aims to expand capacity at its Pune multi-model export hub by 2.50 lakh units, strengthening the company's long-term commitment to the Indian market. The expansion plans also cover facilities in Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Korea, North Africa, and the US.
