Union minister for road and transport Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said the newly-launched e-Luna by Kinetic Green will be a game changer for the tier two and three markets.

The Luna moped was a runaway success 1970s and 80s, helping India bridge the gap between bicycles and motorcycles. The new Luna is brought to life in an all-electric avatar, touted as e-Luna, and is priced at Rs 69,999 (ex-showroom). The e-scooter can touch a top speed of 50 kmph and claims a range of 110 kilometres on a single charge.

Gadkari expressed his pleasure for the competitive pricing of the e-Luna and hoped the product would be a boon for the masses. “We are aggressively promoting indigenous, lesser polluting and economical mode of transportation. The Kinetic e-Luna will be reliable due to its lithium-ion battery and overall sturdiness. The product is in line with the government’s goal of net zero carbon mobility.”

The e-scooter will help farmers, shopkeepers and other low-income individuals to churn up their income, Gadkari added. The Kinetic e-Luna has a running cost of 10 paise per kilometre. The Union minister also hailed the efforts of the entire two-wheeler industry in aiding the growth of the economy.

Kinetic Energy has received an overwhelming response for the e-Luna and intends to spend heavily on network, production and expansion. Sulajja Firodia Motwani, CEO, Kinetic Green, said, “We have garnered over 40,000 leads basis enquiries and B2B channels have shown interest as well. We intend to sell 1 lakh units on e-Luna by next financial year.”

The company is investing Rs 100 crore over the next 12-15 months, and scaling up the facility which can facilitate 5 lakh units annually, according to Firodia. The company has 300 dealerships currently and the plan is to increase it to 500 by September and 2,000 by 2025, she added.
