Mahindra’s high-end SUV, Thar, is one of the best-selling SUVs in India. The Indian automaker has also unveiled the Thar.E concept, the electric version of the Thar. Now, owing to the high demand, Mahindra is also working on the 5-door Thar and will be placing the 5-door Thar above the current generation Thar in terms of hierarchy. The 5-door Thar is recently spotted testing and it is fair to assume that it will be a more family oriented SUV. 

New Mahindra Thar - Features 

The 3-door Thar currently comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system whereas the 5-door version of the Thar is expected to have a larger touchscreen infotainment system as noticed from the spy photos.

The Thar 5-door front seats are anticipated to have heavy bolstering and a bigger center armrest along with adjustable headrests for the second row seats. The 5-door Thar is most likely to come with a hard top, as opposed to the 3-door model's convertible soft top option and the SUV is also likely to feature a single-pane sunroof.

New Mahindra Thar - Performance 

The engine specifications for the Thar 5-door will be the same as the 3-door model which includes  a 2.0-liter petrol engine with 150 bhp and 320 Nm torque and a 2.2-liter diesel engine with 130 bhp and 300 Nm torque. It is expected that both engines will be available with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions.

New Mahindra Thar - Price and Competitors 

Mahindra Thar's 5-door version will most likely be priced between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 18 lakh and is set to compete with Volkswagen Taigun, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Honda Elevate, MG Hector, and Skoda Kushaq. The 5-door Mahindra Thar is likely to be launched in India next year. However, no official confirmation has been given by the automaker regarding the launch date.
