Mahindra & Mahindra showcased its pick-up truck concept, the Global Pik Up in August this year. The Global Pik Up is based on the Mahindra Scorpio-N SUV. Mahindra unveiled this pick-up truck concept in South Africa as that is its main market along with Australia. However, the Mahindra Scorpio-N based pick-up truck has now been spotted testing in India while being heavily camouflaged.

Scorpio-N Pickup Truck - Exterior 

Key exterior elements visible in the spy photos of the Scorpio-N based pick-up truck are the distinct rear doors, repositioned rear wheels to give it a longer wheelbase to make space for the load bed, centrally located handle on the tailgate, vertically stacked tail-lamps and the same alloy wheels as the Scorpio-N. 

Scorpio-N Pickup Truck - Performance 

The Scorpio-N based pick-up truck will be powered by the same engine that is equipped in the Scorpio-N SUV - a 2.2-litre diesel engine that is expected to be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It is also expected to get an All-Wheel-Drive powertrain and four drive modes - Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut and Sand. It is expected that this diesel engine will be featured in India, South Africa, and Australia and this model will also be available with a petrol engine, particularly in the ASEAN region where there is a demand for petrol pickup trucks.

Scorpio-N Pickup Truck - Features 

As per Mahindra, it will be built on a new and tougher ladder frame platform. It is anticipated that the Scorpio-N based pick-up truck will get advanced features like Level-2 ADAS, Trailer Sway Mitigation, All-Around Airbag Protection, Drowsy Driver Detection, 5G Connectivity and more.

Scorpio-N Pickup Truck - Launch 

Mahindra has not revealed any launch timeline for the Scorpio-N based pick-up truck but it is anticipated that it will first be launched in South Africa followed by other markets like India and Australia. Post its launch it will compete with Isuzu V-Cross and Toyota Hilux in the pick-up truck segment in India.
