Maruti Suzuki Cars Global NCAP Ratings: The Indian automotive industry has been witnessing a growing trend towards safety measures incorporated in new age vehicles. The Indian government has also been promoting enhanced safety standards and has taken active steps. The government recently launched the Bharat NCAP crash tests programme to test new vehicles launched in the country. Car buyers have also been paying significant attention towards safety features when buying a new car.

Maruti Suzuki is one of the top-sellers of automobiles in India. Indian buyers have chosen Maruti Suzuki cars for several reasons such as affordability, efficiency, low maintenance and operational costs. However, even after being the largest automobile manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki cars have scored low NCAP safety ratings, indicating their poor performance in terms of safety. Here’s a look at several Maruti Suzuki models and how they have performed under the new stricter rules implemented by Global NCAP.
Maruti Suzuki Ignis - 1 Star
Starting with the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, it scored 16.48 points in adult occupant tests, receiving a 1 star rating. Its body shell was deemed unstable and it lacked ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and compliance with pedestrian protection norms, leading to a lower score.
Maruti Suzuki Swift - 1 Star
The Maruti Suzuki Swift is a popular hatchback in India that scored 19.19 points in adult occupant protection, also earning a 1 star rating. The Swift faced stability concerns in the footwell area and body shell, lacked ESC initially, and didn't meet pedestrian safety norms.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR - 1 Star
The Maruti Suzuki WagonR scored 19.69 points for adult occupant protection, securing a 1 star rating. It didn't undergo the side pole impact test due to the absence of curtain airbags and lacked compliance with pedestrian safety norms, resulting in a lower score for child occupant protection as well.
Maruti Suzuki S-Presso - 1 Star
The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso obtained a 1 star rating for adult occupant protection, scoring 20.03 points. It faced challenges in the side deformable crash test and lacked side head protection, affecting its COP (child occupant protection) score. The S-Presso's bodyshell stability was also noted as a concern.
Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 - 2 Star
Lastly, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 received a 2 star rating, scoring 21.67 points for adult occupant protection. While its body shell was stable, it lacked curtain airbags and didn't comply with pedestrian safety norms, affecting its COP rating.
