Maruti Suzuki Flex Fuel Vehicles:  Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car manufacturer, is set to launch its first E100 flex-fuel vehicle in the country on June 5, 2026. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, recently shared during an event in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Notably, the Indian government is pushing for higher Ethanol blend standards amid the ongoing global fuel crisis due to the ongoing US-Iran conflict. This might be the first mass-market E100 model in the country. Let’s take a look at what can be expected from the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Flex-Fuel car.

Maruti Suzuki Flex-Fuel Car: The Need

It is important to mention that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India included E100 fuel blend standards in the Automobile testing and certification norms category in April 2026. During the event in Nagpur, Maharashtra, Gadkari further stated that ‘At present, more than 12 companies, including Toyota, Tata, Mahindra, and Suzuki, have already introduced such vehicles, and flex-fuel two-wheelers have also arrived. We should minimise the use of petrol, diesel, and gas, as 87 per cent of these fuels are imported, and they also cause pollution. It is worth noting that fossil fuel vehicles are a major reason behind India’s increasing air pollution, while increasing the import of fuel for the country, depleting India’s foreign exchange reserves. Thus, ethanol-blend fuel poses as a better alternative to the traditional fuel.

Maruti Suzuki Flex-Fuel Car: What To Expect?

Maruti Suzuki has showcased two flex-fuel vehicle concepts, the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R Flex Fuel and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Flex-Fuel, in India. The brand is expected to launch one of these products on June 5, which also happens to be World Environment Day. While the brand has not yet revealed the Ethanol blend rating of the Fronx flex-fuel, the Wagon R flex-fuel showcased at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo has an E100 rating. This means that the Wagon R prototype can run on 100 per cent Ethanol. The Fronx Flex-Fuel prototype is expected to support up to E85 fuel blending standards. A confirmed statement regarding the upcoming Flex-Fuel car is expected to be released soon by the brand.
