Nitin Gadkari EV Price Parity:  The EV industry in India is witnessing robust growth as the government is pushing for cleaner and greener mobility solutions. However, most of the EVs are priced higher than their ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) counterparts, and this limits their accessibility to a large number of consumers. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, recently said that EVs can be priced in parity with petrol-powered vehicles within the next 4 to 6 months.

Nitin Gadkari Emphasises Green Energy Adoption

Nitin Gadkari, while speaking at the 20th FICCI Higher Education Summit 2025, said that the country’s dependence on fossil fuels places a burden on the economy and harms the environment. The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways emphasised the need for the adoption of green energy while noting that “Rs 22 lakh crore is spent annually on fuel imports”.

EVs To Become More Affordable?

Nitin Gadkari said ‘Within the next 4 to 6 months cost of electric vehicles will be equivalent to the cost of petrol vehicles.’ He suggested that increased production and technological advancement are reducing the production cost of EVs, and the move is expected to make electric mobility more accessible for Indian consumers.

Indian Auto Sector To Become No. 1

Currently, the Indian automotive industry is in the third position in the world with a size of Rs 22 lakh crore. The United States is the world’s largest car market with a Size of Rs 78 lakh crore, and the Chinese automobile industry is in the second position with Rs 47 lakh crore. Gadkari noted that the Indian automobile industry stood at Rs 14 lakh crore when he took charge, but now it is at Rs 22 lakh crore. Highlighting the government’s long-term plan for the automotive industry, he said ‘Within five years, we aim to make the Indian automobile industry the number one in the world.’
