Porsche has announced a global recall for all Taycan EVs manufactured and sold since the model's launch in 2020. The German carmaker has identified a potential problem with the front brake hoses, which could affect the braking performance of the car. While Porsche reassures owners that the cars are generally safe to drive, they estimate that only about 1 per cent of the Taycans sold are affected by this issue.

The problem arises from the front brake hoses, which can develop cracks over time. These cracks can cause brake fluid to leak, leading to reduced brake pressure and compromised braking performance. If a Porsche Taycan experiences this issue, a warning light will flash on the dashboard. Porsche advises that if this light appears, owners should drive their car to a dealership for inspection and repair. However, if a red warning light shows up, the car should not be driven at all and owners should contact Porsche immediately.

Despite this recall, Porsche has emphasised that the Taycan remains safe to drive if no warning lights are present on the dashboard. The company will be contacting Taycan owners to arrange for a replacement of the faulty brake hoses. The repair process is expected to take about two hours and will be performed free of charge. This service will not impact the vehicle's warranty.

Since its launch in 2020, Porsche has sold over 150,000 Taycan models worldwide. The Taycan, particularly the top-spec Turbo S variant, is known for its impressive performance. It features a 93.4 kWh battery pack that delivers a power output of 625 bhp and 1050 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 260 km/h.
