Renault Group recently unveiled the new-gen Duster SUV for international markets. As per a report by Autocar, the French manufacturer is working on a new pickup truck based on the Duster platform. This upcoming pickup will serve as a more practical and slightly larger replacement for the Duster Oroch, which was based on the previous-generation Duster.

The new Duster-based pickup truck was initially showcased as the Renault Niagara concept. It will share its foundation with the Duster and the upcoming Bigster SUV. It is set to debut in South America, with a long wheelbase variant expected to offer increased cabin and cargo space, aligning it with competitors in the Brazilian market such as the Fiat Toro and Chevrolet Montana.

Renault Duster-Based Pick Up Truck - Design 

Talking about the design, styling cues from the Niagara concept will influence the design of the Duster-based pickup, though it will also incorporate elements from the regular Duster, such as the front doors. The new pickup will feature higher ground clearance and a more rugged, robust appearance, departing significantly from the simpler aesthetic of its predecessor, the Duster Oroch. It will also share components with Nissan models, akin to the Duster SUV.

Renault Duster-Based Pick Up Truck - Powertrain 

Talking about the engine options of the Duster-based pick up truck, specific details about the powertrain are limited. However, it is anticipated that the pickup will offer petrol and petrol-hybrid variants depending on the market. Additionally, It is expected to include various drive and off-road modes, similar to the new Duster.

Renault Duster-Based Pick Up Truck - Launch 

Moreover, the Duster Oroch was exclusively offered in left-hand drive, reports suggest that Renault intends to produce right-hand drive versions of the new pickup. This move aims to position the entry-level pickup in markets like South Africa, where demand for smaller pickups, such as those based on the Mahindra Scorpio, is significant. For the Indian market, Renault is set to introduce the new Duster and the seven-seat Bigster SUV. Although the launch of Nissan variants is also anticipated, the introduction of pickups in India remains uncertain.
