Royal Enfield 350cc Motorcycle:  Royal Enfield makes some of the most popular classic and retro-modern bikes in India. The brand recently announced the removal of the gear position indicator functionality from its bikes in the 350cc segment. Let’s take a look at why the company had to remove the gear position indicator from its motorcycles offered in the 350cc segment.

Royal Enfield 350cc Motorcycles: Reason

As per the statement issued by the brand, the 350cc segment motorcycles are currently being offered without the gear position indicators due to the insufficiency of rare earth materials. The sensors used in the gear position indicator use the rare earth materials, and due to insufficient materials, the brand has removed the sensor from all of its 350cc segment motorcycles.

The gear position indicator used on the motorcycles shows the gear based on the position of the shift drum. These sensors use neodymium, which is a rare-earth magnet. Due to the current insufficiency of Neodymium and electronic chips, the brand has decided to remove the gear position indicator function for the time being. The government is in talks with China regarding the supply, and local manufacturing is also being promoted through initiatives such as PLI and tax relief.
