Tata Nexon iCNG: Tata Nexon iCNG was showcased for the first time at the Bharat Mobility Show 2024. The upcoming Tata Nexon iCNG is generating substantial buzz ahead of its anticipated launch in the next 6 to 8 months. The choice of powertrain will significantly influence the pricing, which is expected to be Rs 80,000 to Rs 1 lakh higher than equivalent petrol variants.

Tata Nexon iCNG - Engine and Performance
Under the hood, the Nexon iCNG is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. While specific power figures for the CNG variant are yet to be disclosed, the petrol engine is expected to maintain its output of 118 bhp and 170 Nm of torque. This unique combination of turbocharging and CNG technology is unusual in the Indian market, potentially offering better performance than traditional naturally aspirated CNG engines. Alternatively, Tata might opt for the reliable 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine used in the Altroz iCNG and Punch iCNG.
Tata Nexon iCNG - Safety
Safety is a top priority for the Nexon iCNG, both for passengers and the CNG system. Expected features include a micro switch to shut off the engine during CNG refuelling, leak-proof materials in the CNG kit and thermal incident protection to prevent overheating. Additionally, the Nexon iCNG might feature a single, advanced ECU for better system control, direct CNG starting, automatic fuel switching, a modular fuel filter design and a leak detection system. These features, while anticipated, will be confirmed closer to launch.

Tata Nexon iCNG - Rivals
The Nexon iCNG's main rival, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG, uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine with a factory-fitted CNG kit, producing 87 bhp and 121 Nm of torque. This gives the Brezza a power disadvantage compared to the turbocharged Nexon iCNG. Furthermore, the Nexon iCNG's twin-cylinder CNG setup offers a significant space advantage, providing around 230 litres of usable boot space compared to the Brezza CNG.
