Indian EV Car Sales: The Indian electric passenger vehicle industry set a new all-time monthly record in May 2026, with total sales surpassing the 26,000 mark for the first time. It is worth mentioning that electric passenger vehicle sales surpassed the 20,000 mark for the sixth time and the fourth time this year. Tata Motors has remained the segment leader with sales of a total of 10,231 electric passenger cars in May 2026.
Tata EV Sales
In May 2026, Tata Motors’ electric car sales crossed the 10,000 mark for the first time. While the Indian electric passenger car market has witnessed an 80 per cent year-on-year increase in sales, Tata Motors registered a 102 per cent year-on-year growth. The brand had sold a total of 5,068 electric cars in May 2025. The brand has sold a total of 45,158 electric cars this year, so far. In January 2026, the brand recorded sales of a total of 8,616 electric passenger vehicles, whereas it registered sales of 7,982 units in February, 9,288 units in March, and 9,041 units in April 2026.

Tata EVs: Nexon Or The Punch?
As mentioned earlier, this is the first time that the brand has sold more than 10,000 electric cars, and the Tata Nexon EV is spearheading the brand’s sales volumes. The Nexon EV has remained one of the best-selling electric car models in the country, and it became the brand’s volume driver along with the refreshed Tata Punch EV, which was launched on February 20, 2026. The brand currently offers a total of 6 electric car models in the Indian market: Tata Tiago EV, Tata Tigor EV, Tata Punch EV, Tata Nexon EV, Tata Curvv EV, and Tata Harrier EV.

Tata EV Sales Set To Increase?
The brand has recently launched the 2026 Tiago EV in the country. The new Tiago EV has become the most affordable electric car in India with its BaaS variant, and prices start from Rs 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom). The brand is also expected to expand its lineup with the addition of the Tata Sierra EV, Tata Safari EV, and Tata Avinya EV, all of which are expected to be launched in FY27. From entry-level to premium EV experience, the brand is preparing to expand its lineup aggressively, and thus, we expect the Tata EV sales to increase further in the coming months.
