Tesla India:  Elon Musk-led Tesla is all set to begin its journey in India, with the opening of its first dealership in BKC, Mumbai. Earlier, the brand was expected to set up a manufacturing plant in the country, but recent reports suggest that it will import its cars, spare parts, and superchargers from its Gigafactory based in Shanghai, China. The Tesla Model Y could be the first offering of the brand in India. Here we are sharing details about the Tesla India Launch event, along with the range, features, and expected price of its first car.

Tesla India Launch: Elon Musk’s Presence

While it has not been confirmed, it is expected that the founder and CEO of the company, Elon Musk, will be present at the opening of the brand’s first showroom in India. Musk’s presence is also anticipated as he may announce the launch of Starlink Wireless Services in the country, along with the inauguration of Tesla’s first showroom in the country.

Tesla Model Y: Brand’s First Car?

The Model Y remains the brand’s top-selling car globally. It is also the most affordable car of the brand, and it was the world’s best-selling car in the year 2023. The Model Y by Tesla has been spotted testing on the Indian roads for quite some time now. Some recent media reports also revealed the homologation and import documents of the Tesla Model Y in the country. All of these recent revelations hint at Tesla launching the Model Y as its first car in India.

Tesla Model Y: Range & Battery

Tesla Model Y is an all-electric compact SUV, and it is the brand’s highest-selling model globally. The Model Y is offered in two variants globally: the standard variant with a 60 kWh LFP battery, and the Long Range/performance variant with a 75 kWh NMC battery. The standard variants have a claimed range of up to 499 kilometers once fully charged. Whereas the Long Range/performance variants have a claimed range of up to 622 kilometers.

Tesla Model Y: Features

The Tesla Model Y is one of the most technologically advanced electric SUVs in the world. The SUV comes equipped with a 15.4-inch touchscreen inside the cabin, which controls most functions in the car. It also gets a panoramic glass sunroof and an electrical liftgate. The Model Y boasts some of the most advanced ADAS features, which include a blind spot monitor, lane keep assist, and more.

Tesla Model Y: Expected Price

As informed earlier, the brand will import most of its vehicles and their parts from its factory in China. The documented price of the Model Y is around Rs 27 lakhs. However, with Rs 21 lakhs worth of import duties levied on each unit, the Model Y is expected to be priced between Rs 50 lakhs (Ex-showroom) to Rs 55 lakhs (Ex-showroom).
