Toyota Deliveries Resumed: Japanese automobile giant, Toyota Motors has resumed deliveries of the Innova Crysta MPV, Fortuner SUV and Hilux pick-up in India. As we reported earlier, Toyota had halted the delivery of the above mentioned models due to irregularities in certification regulations regarding improper domestic emissions certification of engines. Toyota Motors has now confirmed that the Innova Crysta MPV, Fortuner SUV and Hilux pick-up deliveries have been reinstated again in the country. The Japanese automaker reaffirmed that the diesel engines comply with Indian regulations as required.

On January 29, 2024, Toyota halted dispatches for several models. Toyota revealed that Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO) was tasked with developing its diesel engines. TICO reported to Toyota that irregularities had occurred during the certification testing for horsepower output of three diesel engines commissioned by Toyota. These engines are used in ten models globally, including six in Japan and three in India.
As per a report by Autocar, an official from Toyota Motors clarified that the irregularities regarding the “smoothing” of power and torque curves, without resulting in any overstatements or false claims regarding horsepower, torque or other powertrain-related parameters. The spokesperson further assured that these irregularities have no impact on the emissions or safety standards of the vehicles with the affected engines.

Therefore, deliveries were temporarily halted, however, the company maintained production and accepted orders for the Innova, Fortuner and Hilux in the country. The company official further added, “For cars that have already been dispatched but have not yet been delivered to the customer, we will carefully explain to them about this condition. Thereafter, we will proceed with registration and delivery for customers who opt to receive their vehicles.”
