New Hyundai SUV:  Hyundai is among the most popular car manufacturers in India. The brand recently slipped behind Tata and Mahinda in terms of monthly sales, and it appears that the South Korean car manufacturer might be planning to strengthen its position in the Indian automotive market, as it prepares for several launches in the country. Recently, a Hyundai SUV was spied testing in Chennai. Let’s take a look.

Is It An EV?

At the brand’s 2025 investor day, global CEO Jose Munoz confirmed that the brand is working on a compact electric SUV, which will be designed, engineered, and built in India for the Indian consumers. However, the fuel-filler cap is visible above the rear tyre of the SUV, indicating that it is an ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) model. Additionally, the brand’s electric compact SUV is expected to be launched in 2027; however, it is too soon to confirm any details at this time.

Is It The Exter Facelift?

The prototype spied testing shares its overall stance with the brand’s micro SUV, the Exter. The Hyundai Exter was introduced in 2023, and the brand may soon upgrade it with a facelift model. The Hyundai Exter facelift is expected to receive some major changes, including the brand’s next-generation AAOS-based infotainment system. If the brand equips it with the AAOS, the Exter facelift will become the first mass-market Indian car to run on Google’s Android Automotive OS. It is also expected to receive a larger infotainment system, along with a fully digital instrument cluster and more. The powertrain options are expected to remain unchanged with the upcoming Hyundai Exter facelift.

Is It The Hyundai Bayon?

The prototype being tested can also be the upcoming Hyundai Bayon, which is expected to be placed between the Hyundai Exter and the Hyundai Venue. The segment is currently led by the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, and the brand is expected to launch the Hyundai Bayon in India at a starting price of Rs 9-11 lakh (ex-showroom). The brand is also expected to equip the upcoming Hyundai Bayon with the brand’s 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine.
