Volvo EX40 And EC40: Swedish carmaker Volvo Cars has decided to rename its electric XC40 and C40 crossovers to the EX40 and EC40, aligning with its new naming approach for all-electric models. These vehicles have been on sale since 2021 and 2022 respectively. The manufacturer is rebranding these models as the company is gearing up to introduce the smaller EX30 and larger EX90 models.

Speaking about this name change, Volvo said, “The new and streamlined model name standard makes it even easier for existing and new customers to understand which of our models are fully electric and which are hybrids.” While the petrol and plug-in hybrid variants of the XC40 remain unchanged, Volvo has decided to let go of the Recharge badge. Consequently, the two plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variants have now been named as the T6 and T8.
Additionally, the Volvo EX40 and Volvo EC40 models are now available with a new Performance software package that boosts the power output of the top-tier dual-motor powertrain to 436 bhp. This new Performance package makes them more powerful than the Mercedes-AMG A45 S. Moreover, Volvo Cars promised to deliver "faster acceleration" for the sibling models, but the exact reduction in their 0-100 kmph time from the previous 4.7 seconds has not been disclosed. It is not yet known how this power increase is going to affect the range of the two electric models. However, Volvo stated that the single-motor EX40 and EC40 models will achieve maximum ranges of 576 km and 582 km on a single charge.
