In a significant push to enhance railway infrastructure in Bihar, the Central Government has sanctioned Rs 86,107 crore for 52 major projects, including 31 new rail lines, one gauge conversion, and 20 doubling projects, covering a total length of 4,663 km. This information was provided by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in response to a question in the Lok Sabha.

The minister stated that by March 2025, around 1,014 km of rail line will have been commissioned, with Rs 29,353 crore already spent. Notable completed projects include river bridges at Munger (Rs 2,774 crore), Kosi (Rs 516 crore), and Patna (Rs 3,555 crore).

Vaishnaw also highlighted a nine-fold increase in Bihar’s railway budget over the past decade. Bihar’s connectivity has been further boosted with the launch of 20 out of 144 Vande Bharat trains and 10 of the 14 Amrit Bharat Express trains currently operating in the state. Additionally, under the Amrit Bharat Station Yojana, 98 stations across Bihar are being redeveloped, including those in Saharsa, Gaya, and Muzaffarpur, where construction of new station buildings, foot overbridges, and parking zones is progressing rapidly.

To ensure safer road-rail integration, 558 Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Road Under Bridges (RUBs) were completed between 2014 and 2025, while 218 more structures have been sanctioned for Rs 6,014 crore.
