JDU's candidate from Mokama and 'Bahubali', Anant Singh has been sent to 14-day judicial custody after he was arrested earlier today (November 2). The action stems from the murder of Dlar Chand Yadav, another strongman, in Mokama while he was campaigning for the Jun Suraaj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi on October 27.
It is being said that Singh and Yadav didn't have a very happening history and were often involved in a feud, which made Singh the first accused, subsequently leading to three FIRs and his arrest.
How Anant Singh will campaign?
With just few days to voting for the Bihar Assembly elections, the question is, can Anant Singh continue campaigning?
NDTV quoted state DGP Vinay Kumar saying that Anant wil be in judicial custody and it does not matter who is fighting from which party.
He said, "We act on the basis of evidence. It doesn't matter who is fighting from which party". The report also cited the top cop saying that the police are investigating the incident, which is 'not completely a blind case'.
Voting in Mokama will be held in the first phase on November 6. From Sunday, there are only three days left till the campaign can be run as it ends 48 hours before the polling.
As much time has already passed since the announcement of the ticket to Singh, he has had time to reach out to the people.
Given the crucial significance of the last few days in poll campaigning, in Singh's absence, his family and supporters would only be there to do it.
Apart from Mokama, 120 other seats will go to polls on November 6. The voting for the second phase will take place on November 11 and counting of votes will take place on November 14.
