Bhagalpur: The Indian Railways is moving ahead with plans to construct a new terminal station near Bhagalpur. The proposed “New Bhagalpur Terminal” will be set up at Jagdishpur, around 14.4 kilometres from the existing Bhagalpur Junction, on railway land covering 40 to 50 acres. The estimated project cost is Rs 250 crore.

According to railway officials, the terminal will be developed along the Bhagalpur-Dumka section under the Malda division. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Manish Kumar Gupta has asked concerned department heads to send layout plans for their office spaces. He also instructed them to specify the size and facilities needed in their respective office areas, as the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to receive approval from the Railway Board soon.

The terminal is being designed with modern amenities, inspired by metro station layouts. There is speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may lay the foundation stone for the project.

As per the preliminary plan, the new terminal will have four platforms and a loop line. In future, when the Dumka-Bhagalpur railway section is double-tracked, the yard will include two main lines. The layout will have a 50-metre buffer zone on both sides of the central main line, with connections via two tracks.

The design includes three to four terminal platforms and one or two through platforms. An automatic coach washing facility, camtech pit lines, and modern passenger platforms will also be part of the station. Two island platforms are planned, ensuring smoother operations.

Six reception and dispatch lines will connect the main lines to the station yard. Additionally, four loop lines and two stabling lines, each measuring 700–750 metres, will be constructed to accommodate 24-coach trains.

To save time and improve efficiency, two automatic coach washing lines have been proposed. These washing platforms will be linked to the main platforms via a foot overbridge. Another bridge will connect the main platform to the stabling yard.

The yard design is based on two main lines, and all construction will follow this model. The new terminal will also feature lifts, escalators, underground parking, and a spacious concourse area to improve passenger experience.
