In a major setback to the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Bihar Assembly elections, the nomination of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) candidate from Madhuara, Seema Singh, has been cancelled by the returning officer.
The nomination was cancelled after the returning officer found discrepancies and technical errors in the documents. The Madhaura Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDO) stated that the nominations of four people, including Seema Singh, have been cancelled.
Apart from Seema Singh, the RO has also cancelled the nominations of independent candidates Altaf Alam Raju and Vishal Kumar, and Aditya Kumar of the BSP.
The nomination cancellation of Seema Singh, considered a strong candidate, has sparked political turmoil in the constituency.
The experts believe that after Seema Singh's ouster, the contest on the seat will now be between RJD and Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraj Party.
The Election Office has clarified that all four nomination papers were rejected as per the rules and regulations, and that no negligence or favouritism was committed.
Local political analysts say that the cancellation of Seema Singh's nomination has disappointed LJP supporters, while opposition parties have described it as a favourable situation for their prospects.
