In a shocking incident, as many as 55 students ran away from a state-run residential school hostel in Bihar’s Jamui district after there was no dinner served to them. However, some of these girls have returned to the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) hostel in the Sono block of the district.

Following the incident, Jamui district education officer Kapil Dev Tiwari said that an investigation would be done regarding the matter and added that education of children can not be interrupted, as reported by Dainik Jagran.

Earlier, some students who returned to the hostel identified as Sonali Kumari, Khushboo Kumari, Rinku Murmu, and Pramita Hembram alleged that they received food only on Saturday afternoon and there was no food at night.

Meanwhile, some students also accused the school management and the cook of pressuring them to cooperate in the preparation of food.

Warden--In-Charge Guddi Kumari alleged that when she woke up at 3 am, she found that all the students were missing from the hostel. The door of the hostel was open following which the accountant and operator were called, as reported by Dainik Jagran.

Kumari also alleged that there is no sanitation in the hostel and water leaks from the roof. It was also discovered that the students were charged Rs 2,200 for staying in the hostel even when the government capped the fee at Rs 1,600.

Prashant Kumar, in-charge headmaster told Dainik Jagran that information regarding the incident has been received and there is a food complaint. Kumar emphasised that efforts will be made to improve the system.
