Ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress party has invited applications from candidates seeking tickets for all 243 constituencies. In a tech-driven move, the party has launched a QR code, allowing interested individuals to apply directly by scanning it.
Upon scanning the code, applicants will be directed to a form where they must provide detailed personal and political information. This includes the candidate’s name, district, assembly seat, contact details, address, participation in the Har Ghar Jhanda Abhiyan (including five photos), number of public outrage and community meetings held, social media presence (Facebook followers, page links, other digital platforms), and a complete biodata. After filling out the form, applicants can submit it online.
The QR code comes with a message: “Bihar is ready for change.” The initiative has sparked political discussion, especially over the party’s decision to invite applications for all 243 seats. Many believe this move is a strategic step to strengthen the Congress’s bargaining position during seat-sharing negotiations within the Mahagathbandhan alliance, where consensus has yet to be reached.
By launching this application process, the Congress has signaled the beginning of its candidate selection exercise, even as alliance talks remain inconclusive.
