Bihar Assembly Election Results 2025: The intense poll battle in Bihar, where the rules of the political game are different from the rest of India due to its peculiar nature of voting, largely owing to caste and social engineering, ended with the announcement of the assembly election results on Friday. The Election Commission of India showed that there was a very strong undercurrent in favour of the Nitish government, which most pollsters failed to decode. The landslide victory of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was a surprise not only for the rivals, but also for those who predicted the victory of the ruling coalition. The ruling NDA decimated the Mahagathbandhan to retain power, reaffirming Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's enduring appeal and dealing a body blow to the Congress and ally RJD.

What's The Tally?

The massive scale of the victory of the NDA can be gauged from the fact that its two main constituents--BJP and JD(U)--are on course for an over 90 per cent strike rate in 101 seats each they had contested. The alliance crossed a "200 paar" win for a three-fourth majority with BJP emerging as the single largest party, according to latest results.

While the BJP won 89 seats, up from 74 in 2020, Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal(U) tasted success in 85 constituencies, up from 43. The majority mark in the 243-member Assembly is 122.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) seat tally slipped to 25 from 75 and Congress bagged only six out of the 61 seats it contested, down from 19.

Here Are The Major Highlights Of The Bihar Assembly Elections:

1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a victory function at the party's headquarters in New Delhi, said that NDA's sweeping victory in Bihar has paved the way for BJP's victory in assembly polls next year and asserted that the party will end "jungle raj" in the state. PM Modi took several jibes at Congress and RJD following the results of the Bihar polls in which the two parties were decimated. PM referred to some states and union territories where the BJP has never formed a government of its own and said the massive victory in Bihar has infused party workers in Kerala, Puducherry and West Bengal with new energy.

2. For Nitish Kumar, who has governed the state for nearly two decades, this election has been widely viewed as a test of both political endurance and public trust. Once celebrated as "Sushashan Babu" for pulling Bihar out of the shadows of what was often termed the "jungle raj," the Chief Minister has in recent years confronted signs of voter weariness and questions over his shifting political alignments. Despite this, the current trends reflect a noticeable shift on the ground, indicating that voters are reposing faith in his governance model once again. The return of a confident, coordinated BJP-JD(U) alliance has significantly reshaped the battlefield this time.

3. The results reaffirmed a pattern seen over multiple elections, with Bihar giving the BJP and Narendra Modi overwhelming support in the 2014, 2019, and 2024 Lok Sabha polls, as well as in the 2020 and now 2025 Assembly elections.

4. As the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) registered a thumping victory in the Bihar Assembly polls, Nitish Kumar is projected to get a fifth term as Chief Minister of Bihar. The Bihar polls were viewed to be a test of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity and the anti-incumbency factor of CM Nitish Kumar. It appears that the Mukhyamantri Rojgar Yojana scheme, under which Rs 10,000 were distributed to women's bank accounts amid poll campaigns, was one of the primary factors which led to the NDA's sweeping victory.

5. Jailed Janata Dal (United) leader Anant Singh secured a victory from Mokama assembly constituency in Bihar's Patna district by a margin of 28,206 votes. The Jailed MLA secured 91,416 votes against the RJD candidate and Surajbhan Singh's wife, Veena Devi, who got 63,210 votes.

6. Popular singer and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Maithili Thakur (25) secured a victory from Alinagar Assembly constituency by a margin of 11,730 votes, becoming the youngest MLA in the state. Maithili Thakur (25), who made her political debut in this assembly election, secured 84,915 votes and defeated RJD's veteran leader Binod Mishra (63), who got only 73,185 votes.

7. Debutant Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party suffered a major disappointment as the recently floated outfit failed to secure even a single seat in the polls. Earlier, Kishor had indicated that he would contest from Raghopur or Kargahar; he ultimately decided not to fight the election but fielded candidates from his party on almost all 243 seats.

8. Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) showcased an exceptional performance in the 2025 Bihar Assembly polls. Chirag Paswan emphasised on Saturday that the outcome of the polls has given a befitting reply to those who underestimated him. The LJP(RV) has already won 19 out of the total 29 seats it contested. Chirag remarked on the impressive strike rate of the alliance and emphasised that the people of Bihar have answered critics who underestimated him.

9. Bihar Deputy Chief Ministers - Samrat Chaudhary Vijay Sinha won their respective seats. Chaudhary won from the Tarapur constituency assembly with a margin of 45843 votes,, while Sinha, who was earlier trailing from the Lakhisarai seat, won with a margin of 24940 votes against Congress candidate Amaresh Kumar.

10. Janshakti Janta Dal (JJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav faced a major setback, finishing a distant third in the Mahua Assembly constituency as Sanjay Kumar Singh of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) secured a thumping victory with 87641 votes and a margin of 44997 votes, while RJD candidate Mukesh Kumar Raushan stood second.
