Bihar Assembly Elections: The BJP-led NDA has started to craft its strategy for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The focus is on the weakest Magadh region, where the ruling alliance has not performed well in the last couple of elections. In the 2015 elections, the NDA won only 7 seats. In 2020, they lost 20 of these seats and won only 7 seats.

These losses turned worse for the NDA because in three districts, it failed to open its account. As part of the new strategy, NDA is mulling over fielding new candidates to overcome the local-level anti-incumbency.

Nawada

Nawada district has five constituencies. Of them, BJP's Aruna Devi won Warsilganj in 2020. It was the only seat in the district that the NDA won. The remaining four seats went to the Mahagathbandhan (RJD-led grand alliance).

The equation in all these districts is going to be changed, as on the Nawada seat, JDU's losing candidate from the 2002 elections, Kaushal Yadav, has joined RJD. This has raised questions that RJD will retain incumbent MLA Vibha Devi or not.

In the Govindpur constituency, JDU's 2020 candidate Purnima Yadav has also turned to RJD. There are speculations that Purnima Yadav may get a ticket. As the NDA has lost its former candidates in both seats, the name candidates will contest the elections.

Jehanabad district

In Jehanabad, the NDA lost all three seats in the 2020 polls. In the Jehanabad constituency, JDU's Krishnanandan Verma had lost to the Mahagathbandhan. Due to his age, he may not be seen in the fray this time.

In Ghosi, JDU's Rahul Kumar lost the 2020 polls. JDU is thinking of fielding a new face this time from the constituency. In Makhdoompur, Jitan Ram Manjhi's HAM had lost to a Mahagathbandhan candidate.

Arwal district

In Arwal, the BJP and JDU lost Arwal and Kurtha constituencies, respectively in the 2020 polls. The parties likely will change the candidates in Arwal too.

Aurangabad district

Aurangabad holds high significance in the Magadh region. According to a report by Jagran.com, the internal politics has gripped the seats as factionalism has evolved over time.

In 2020, the NDA lost all six seats in the district. BJP's Manoj Kumar Sharma is eyeing to contest from Goh, where he lost in the last election.

On the Navinagar seat, JDU's Virendra Kumar Singh lost the polls, while HAM lost the Kutumba seat. Ramadhar Singh, BJP's candidate from Aurangabad, also lost.

Gaya district

Gaya in Magadh has the highest 10 seats. It is the only district in Magadh where NDA clinched equal number of seats with the opposition alliance.

Last time, JDU had given a ticket to Manorama Devi from the Atari seat. Now she is the MLA of Belagnj. Therefore, a new candidate is possible in Atari. BJP had lost in Gurua. JDU's Vinod Prasad Yadav lost the election in Sherghati. BJP's Hari Manjhi lost in Bodh Gaya. Discussions are going on about new equations on all these seats.
