The Election Commission of India, led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, is expected to visit Bihar in the first week of October to take stock of poll preparedness in the state.

It is usual for the poll body to visit the election-bound state before announcing the poll schedule. The visit is planned after the final electoral rolls under the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise will be published on September 30.

During such visits, the poll body meets the representatives of the political parties, top police and administrative officials, and its state poll officials while reviewing election readiness.

Earlier, on September 22, reports surfaced suggesting that the poll body is likely to announce the schedule between Dussehra (October 2) and Diwali (October 19) as the term for this Assembly is concluding on November 22.

It is most likely that the elections would be concluded before that. Regarding the dates, it is highly likely that the voting would be held after Chhath Puja (October 25-28), a prominent festival celebrated widely and enthusiastically across the state.

The Election Commission had conducted the assembly election in three phases in 2020, and it is most likely that the trend will be continued However, some reports suggest that the election can also be held in two phases this time.

The poll body is under wide scrutiny with the electoral process this time as the opposition, especially Congress and RJD, have came down heavily on it, accusing it of vote theft in favour of the BJP.
