Some unidentified miscreants toppled and vandalised the statue of BR Ambedkar in Katarmal village in Bihar’s Begusarai district. The incident took place under the authority of Dandari police station on Monday night, after the release of the caste survey report by the Bihar Government. The villagers were outraged by the incident and staged a protest on Tuesday morning against the act of vandalism.
The District Council President Surendra Paswan and the police officials visited the site and tried to pacify the protesters, who blocked the road in response to the damage to the statue. The agitating people blocked Raipur- Katarmal Road for over four hours on Tuesday morning.
The villagers alleged that a group of 4 to 5 people came and pulled down the statue of Ambedkar. They demanded the arrest and strict punishment for the culprits who disrespected the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. They said that the incident was an attempt to create communal tension in the society after the release of the caste survey in the state.
