The Bihar Cabinet on Tuesday approved the establishment of a new industrial corridor in Bhagalpur and a new industrial area in Gopalganj, alongside several other key development and policy decisions. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, cleared a total of 36 proposals.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet, Dr S Siddharth, said that 97 acres of land will be acquired for the Bhagalpur industrial corridor, while 32.66 acres will be allocated for the Gopalganj industrial area. Industrial areas in Aurangabad, Katihar, Nalanda, Muzaffarpur, and Supaul will also be expanded with 2,417 acres of additional land, at a total cost of Rs 1,038 crore.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary confirmed that 96.89 acres of government land in Bhagalpur will be transferred to the Industries Department for the corridor, which is expected to spur local industrial growth and create employment. The Gopalganj industrial area will be developed by the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA) on land permanently transferred from two villages in the Vijayapur block.
Other Key Cabinet Decisions:
-PDS Shops: Working hours and holidays amended; shops will remain closed every Monday, and on January 26 and August 15. Records of ration card holders will now be maintained electronically under the Bihar Targeted Public Distribution System (Control) (Third Amendment) Order, 2025.
-School Attendance for DBT Schemes: The 75 per cent attendance condition for benefits under schemes like the Chief Minister Kishori Swasthya Karyakram Yojana, Chief Minister Bal/Balika Chhatravriti Yojana, and Chief Minister Bal/Balika Cycle Yojana will apply for April 1–July 31, 2025.
-Thermal Power Project in Pirpainti: The proposed solar power plant will be replaced by a thermal power project with three units of 800 MW capacity. The land will be leased for 33 years or the duration of the power purchase agreement, at Rs 1 per year.
-Appointments and Restructuring: Approval to restructure 712 posts in the Agriculture Department and fill them via appointment and promotion, including 534 posts of Agricultural Statistics Computer and 178 posts of Agricultural Statistics Investigator. Sanction for 18 non-gazetted posts in Saharsa and Nalanda district courts, 57 stenographers in transport-related offices, and 167 posts for teaching and non-teaching staff at Munger University.
-Assembly Elections 2025: Rs 154.30 crore approved for installing two cameras at each of 90,712 polling stations, along with webcasting and related arrangements.
-Mining: Reserve prices fixed for e-auction of Majos and Bhanta iron ore blocks in Jamui district.
-Petrol Pumps and CNG Stations: Minimum plot size for new stations in municipal areas set at 20m x 20m.
-Transport Rules: Approval for Bihar Transport Regional Stenographer Cadre (Recruitment, Promotion, and Service Conditions) Rules, 2025.
-Agriculture Services: Bihar Agriculture Subordinate Service Category-5 Amendment Rules, 2025 approved.
