Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday reviewed the progress of the project aimed at reviving the old stream of the Ganga River from Ghansurpur Ghat to Dedoor Ghat in Lakhanpura, Bakhtiyarpur block of Patna district. During the on-site inspection, he directed officials to expedite the work and ensure its completion before the onset of the monsoon.
Principal Secretary of the Water Resources Department, Santosh Kumar Mall, briefed the Chief Minister on the current status of the project. The CM issued several key instructions and stressed the importance of timely execution to benefit local residents, especially those visiting the Seedhi Ghat area.

The project, covering a 4,420-meter stretch, involves the removal of silt to restore the dying water channel. The total cost of the initiative is estimated at Rs 3,427.80 lakh. To prevent erosion in vulnerable areas near Ghansurpur, Karauta, and Hatia villages, geo bag slope pitching is being implemented across 1,520 meters. The scheme also includes a three-year maintenance plan to ensure consistent water flow.
Additionally, land acquisition is underway for constructing access roads connecting the under-construction Seedhi Ghat Temple and JMT School. The Chief Minister reviewed the erosion control measures and staircase construction work spanning 330 meters, aimed to be completed by June 2025.

During the visit, CM Nitish Kumar offered prayers at the Shri Radhe Krishna Temple at Seedhi Ghat, seeking peace and prosperity for the state. He also paid floral tributes at the samadhi of freedom fighter and former MP Pandit Sheelbhadra Yaji and his wife Balkeshwari Yaji.
The visit was attended by Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the CM Deepak Kumar, Secretary Kumar Ravi, Patna Divisional Commissioner Dr Chandrashekhar Singh, District Magistrate Dr Tyagarajan S.M., SSP Avkash Kumar, and Satyanand Yaji among other officials.
